6 fisherman trapped near Tennessee sea rescued by Coast Guard

coast guard rescue work

Six fishermen who had been trapped in a boat close to the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) for two days have been rescued, the Coast Guard reported on Monday.

According to a Coast Guard press release, the boat’s engine failure left it stranded since May 27.

After learning that an Indian fishing boat hadn’t arrived back at the harbour on Sunday, the Coast Guard Mandapam unit saved the fishermen.

The Coast Guard ship ICGS C-432, which was already patrolling the area, was redirected by the ICG unit in Mandapam to look for the missing fishing boat. The fishing boat was discovered drifting near to IMBL at a distance of 16 nm (nautical miles) from Pamban Light after a thorough search, according to the press release.

The fisherman on the boat alerted the Coast Guard that they were stranded because a shaft had broken and fallen into the water, making it impossible for them to return. As a result, the boat remained in the same spot for two days.
