A boat sinks in Malappuram, Kerala at least killing 22

Tragically, on May 7th, a boat sank in Malappuram, Kerala. Kerala’s Minister of Revenue K Rajan reported that at least 22 people had been killed in the accident in the Tanur neighbourhood of Malappuram.

Manjeri’s Government Medical College has received the bodies and wounded. At the same time, the National Disaster Response Force has sent out a team to aid in the rescue.

President Murmu took to Twitter to express his sorrow over the occurrence, describing it as “extremely shocking and saddening.”

While expressing his sorrow for the victims, Prime Minister Modi also offered an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to the survivors of each victim.

Malappuram boat accident was also mourned by Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala.

The ‘Chetak’ chopper from the Indian Navy has been dispatched to help in the rescue effort. More information is needed.
