Ahmednagar in Maharashtra renamed as Ahilyanagar

According to India Today, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde declared the renaming of Ahmednagar to Ahilyanagar on Wednesday.

On the 298th anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar’s birth, deputy chief minister Fadnavis petitioned chief minister Eknath Shinde to rename Ahmednagar as “Ahilyanagar.”

To commemorate the death anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, the Maratha Malwa queen noted for erecting temples and “dharamashalas” (public rest rooms), numerous state ministers, including Fadnavis, Shinde, and others, gathered at Ahmednagar.
