On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the nation’s overall flood mitigation efforts for the next monsoon season as well as the steps being taken to create a comprehensive strategy.

According to a statement released by the Union home ministry, Shah suggested at the meeting that the rain and flood forecast, which is currently provided by the India meteorological department (IMD) and the Central Water Commission (CWC) for five days, be extended to seven days by the following monsoon season in order to further improve flood management.

According to him, efforts are being made in the field of disaster management under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lessen the loss of life and means of support during disasters.

Shah ordered that by March 2024, the Union home ministry and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) would have established a comprehensive programme that would allow all early warning agencies to instantaneously access scientific data for transmission to the disaster management agencies.
