Apna Dal (K) ready to join NDA after snapping ties with SP

Published

on

Lucknow, March 22 (IANS) The Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) leader, Pallavi Patel, indicated on Friday that her party was ready to ally with the BJP-led NDA if they made such an offer.

This comes a day after the Apna Dal (K) snapped ties with the Samajwadi Party (SP) and announced its decision to contest the Lok Sabha polls on its own.

The Apna Dal (K) announced that it would contest from Mirzapur, Phulpur and Kaushambi Lok Sabha seats.

Interestingly, the sitting MP from Mirzapur is Pallavi Patel’s estranged sister and Union Minister, Anupriya Patel who heads the Apna Dal (Sonelal).

“There are no talks with the NDA right now. If an offer comes then our organisation will consider it,” she told reporters on Friday.

SP President, Akhilesh Yadav had said on Thursday that the “alliance between the Apna Dal (K) and the Samajwadi Party was for the 2022 Assembly polls and not the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.”

Pallavi Patel said, “Akhilesh Yadav is confused, all PDA (Pichda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) votes are not his. He has only 35 per cent votes with him. If there is an alliance then we should have talked about it.”

It may be recalled that Pallavi Patel had won the 2022 Assembly elections on the SP symbol from Sirathu, defeating Deputy Chief Minister, Keshav Maurya.

Rajkot fire tragedy: 27 victims identified through DNA tests

Published

By

Rajkot, May 30 (IANS) In the aftermath of the fire incident at the TRP Game Zone in Rajkot, authorities have identified 27 victims through DNA matching.

Since the bodies were charred beyond recognition, the state government had to take the help of a forensic science lab to identify the victims through DNA profiling.

Officials said, “For those whose family members were missing, disaster management and police teams compiled lists at the incident site. Throughout the night of May 25, as bodies were recovered, they were taken to the Civil Hospital for postmortem and DNA sampling. Samples from the victims and their families were sent to FSL Gandhinagar via air ambulance for matching. Due to multiple family members reporting the same missing individuals, there were initially duplicate or similar names. After verification, the final list of deceased victims was compiled, confirming the deaths of 27 individuals, whose bodies were handed over to their next of kin.”

The officials said that misleading information about burn victims being treated or deceased in private hospitals was debunked through statements from hospital authorities and videos released on social media.

“A complaint by Hiteshbhai alias Vijaybhai Labhshankar Pandya about his nephew and two other children being missing was found to be false, resulting in an FIR against him under IPC Section 211,” said the officials.

Each victim was assigned a Deputy Mamlatdar and a PSI to assist their families from the moment the bodies were handed over until the final rites, and to complete the process for CM Relief Fund and PM Relief Fund assistance, the officials added.

“FSL teams worked round the clock to match the DNA samples of the deceased with their families. Currently, there are no pending complaints from any family regarding missing members, and all 27 bodies have been handed over to their families,” the officials said, adding that they have designated contact points and phone numbers if any individual is still missing after the fire incident.

Welfare of the poor top priority, says PM Modi in Hoshiarpur

Published

By

Hoshiarpur, May 30 (IANS) Stating that the welfare of the poor was his government’s top priority, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday took a pledge that he would not let anyone snatch the quota of the poor and Dalits.

“The Congress and INDI Alliance people are agitated with this effort of mine. Their track record has been of snatching reservation from the SCs, STs and OBCs. They are insulting the spirit of the Constitution, the spirit of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. They want to take away the reservation of Dalits and Backward Classes and give it only to the Muslims,” PM Modi said at a big rally in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur town.

The PM said that he had exposed the Opposition’s conspiracy and “this is why they are furious and keep abusing Modi”.

This was PM Modi’s fourth rally in Punjab, a last minute attempt to motivate the voters just hours ahead of the campaigning coming to a close for the final and seventh phase of the General Elections.

From the Hoshiarpur (Reserved seat), once a Congress bastion, the BJP has fielded Anita Som Parkash, the wife of outgoing Union Minister Som Parkash.

The Congress gave the ticket to Yamini Gomar, the AAP nominated Congress turncoat Raj Kumar Chabbewal and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) made ex-minister Sohan Singh Thandal its candidate.

Citing Guru Ravidas as his inspiration, PM Modi said, “Empowering the poor is the top priority of my government, and this is greatly inspired by Guru Ravidas.

“Guru Ravidas had said, ‘I desire a state where everyone gets food, and where people of all statuses live together’. After forming the government, we will work towards the naming of the airport in Adampur after Guru Ravidas.”

PM Modi targeted the Congress and the INDIA bloc by saying, “We are hearing a lot about the Constitution from the people of INDI Alliance. These are the same people who strangled the Constitution during Emergency.

“When in 1984, people of the Sikh community were being murdered, at that time, they did not think about the Constitution.”

Slamming the ruling AAP government, PM Modi said they have destroyed industry and farming.

He said the work on the roadmap for the first 125 days of the BJP’s third term has been completed.

An optimistic PM Modi, who gave a clarion call for making the 21st Century India’s century, said, “After decades, it is time for a full majority government at the Centre to score a hat-trick. Every Indian aligned with the Viksit Bharat dream, give us your blessings.”

Punjab will go to polls for 13 parliamentary seats on June 1.

In 2019, the BJP in alliance with the Akali Dal had contested three Lok Sabha seats (Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur), while the latter contested the remaining 10 seats.

At that time, the state ruling Congress had won eight seats — Amritsar, Faridkot, Anandpur Sahib, Jalandhar, Khadoor Sahib, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala seats — while the Akali Dal won Bathinda and Ferozepur and the BJP Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur seats.

The AAP won from Sangrur. In 1996, BSP founder Kanshi Ram had won this seat with the support of the Akali Dal. BSP supremo Mayawati also contested from the seat in 1992 but lost. The party still holds significant presence on the seat.

Removing Charminar from Telangana emblem an insult to people: KTR

Published

on

By

Hyderabad, May 30 (IANS) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao on Thursday said that removing Charminar from the Telangana state emblem by the Congress government is an insult to every citizen.

Rama Rao, along with several BRS leaders, visited Charminar for a symbolic protest over the government’s decision to change the state emblem.

He said while Hyderabad is the glory of Telangana, Charminar is the identity of Hyderabad.

“Charminar is famous all over the world. Hyderabad and Charminar are inseparable,” he said.

He alleged that by removing Charminar and Kakatiya arch (Kakatiya Kala Thoranam), the Congress government is hurting the self-respect of the people of Telangana.

The BRS leader said that if the government goes ahead with the decision to remove them from the emblem, their party would stage protests in Hyderabad and across the state.

He asked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy what is the need and urgency to remove historic structures from the state emblem?

KTR, as the BRS leader is popularly known, alleged that the Congress government was resorting to a change of emblem due to political vendetta.

The BRS working president said that Revanth Reddy had not participated in the Telangana movement. He alleged that Revanth Reddy wanted to change the emblem just because it was chosen by BRS president and then chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).

KTR claimed that during the 10-year rule of BRS, Telangana witnessed rapid development and alleged that the present Congress government does not want to recognise this fact.

He recalled that when 400 years of Hyderabad were completed, the then Congress government had organised the celebrations with the image of Charminar. “How was it acceptable to the Congress government then,” he asked while finding fault with Revanth Reddy’s remarks that Hyderabad along with the Kakatiya arch symbolises the autocracy of past rulers.

KTR also recalled former chief minister N. T. Rama Rao had installed Kakatiya arches on both sides of Tank Bund in Hyderabad.

He reminded Revanth Reddy that people voted Congress to power to improve their lives, do good for them and fulfil the promises it had made.

Bhangar on boil two days before last phase of LS polls

Published

By

Kolkata, May 30 (IANS) Bhangar under Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency in South 24 Parganas has been gripped by tension since Thursday morning following clashes between Trinamool Congress and All India Secular Front (AISF) cadres.

Jadavpur is one of the nine Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal which are going for polls on Saturday and is notorious for political violence.

The local AISF leadership has alleged that one of their supporters was beaten up on Thursday morning for not obeying the ruling party’s direction to participate in a roadshow on Wednesday afternoon.

The roadshow was in support of actress-turned-politician and Trinamool Congress candidate from Jadavpur, Saayoni Ghosh.

Agitated AISF activists retaliated by beating up a Trinamool Congress worker in the area, which resulted in escalation of tensions in Bhangar.

However, the local Trinamool Congress leadership rubbished AISF’s allegations and asserted that their organisational strength in the constituency is such that there is no necessity to force any AISF supporter to participate in roadshows or rallies.

Since the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, where Naushad Siddique got elected as the lone AISF legislator from Bhangar, there have been frequent reports of clashes between AISF and Trinamool Congress activists there.

The worst cases of poll-related violence were reported from Bhangar before the panchayat polls in the state last year, when a number of activists from both sides were killed in inter-party clashes.

Published

By

Ahmedabad, May 30 (IANS) A fire broke out at Asarwa Civil Hospital, one of the largest government-run hospitals in Gujarat on Thursday.

No casualties have been reported.

The incident occurred due to a short circuit in the air conditioning compressor on the fifth floor of the medical facility.

Officials shared that the fire brigade team responded to the emergency call and arrived at the scene. They managed to control the fire before it spread, preventing significant damage or injuries.

Details are awaited.

In 2019, an air conditioning (AC) unit in ward D-9 on the hospital’s third floor, which housed the swine flu isolation unit, burst into flames. Two patients had died in the ward following the incident.

Recently, a fire at a game zone in Rajkot had claimed many lives.
