On Saturday morning, Ari komban, the wild elephant that had been moved from Chinnakanal to the Periyar Tiger Reserve, was spotted in Cumbum town in Tamil Nadu.

In the commotion produced by Arikomban’s presence, one person collapsed and suffered injuries while attempting to flee the elephant. Video video recording Arikomban’s trip from Lower Camp (on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border) to Cumbum has surfaced.

The Tamil Nadu forest department has also decided to bring down the kumkis from different parts of the state to Cumbum and has enhanced monitoring after many people were hurt while attempting to fend off the elephant.

Arikomban ventured into the inhabited region after a long journey last night, stressing the need for rapid action and ongoing monitoring.

As Arikomban advances through heavily populated sections of Cumbum, fears are growing among residents about potential risks to life and property.
