Arjun Tendulkar grabs his first wicket in the form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the IPL.

On Sunday night at the Wankhede stadium, he made his debut for the Mumbai Indians against the Kolkata Knight Riders, delivering two overs and allowing 17 runs.

His bowling didn’t stand out at the time, but when his captain Rohit Sharma needed him most on Tuesday night, he came through in a big way.

The 23-year-old’s final stat line of 1 for 17 off 2.5 overs was crucial in the context of the game.

Tendulkar is synonymous with pressure since Arjun’s father, Sachin Tendulkar, famously won games for India under tense conditions. On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, Arjun once again shown this trait when he competed against SRH.

Mayank Agarwal and Heinrich Klaasen brought SRH close in their pursuit of victory, but the team lost wickets at frequent intervals and needed 20 runs in the final over to win.

At 173 for 8, with all-rounder Abdul Samad and Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the crease, Arjun was given the task of bringing MI to victory.

The over was initiated by a low full-toss from Arjun. Samad attempted to hit it with the bat, but the keeper made a diving stop.

In the next ball, SRH lost a wicket. Samad completed a single after cutting a low full throw towards the off side. He was unable to recover from his misstep in the second and was eventually ran out for 9.

Arjun threw a wide to new batsman Mayank Markande, who then dug out a yorker off the next ball and scampered for two runs as SRH needed 19 from 4 with one wicket in hand.

With the stakes high for both sides, Arjun delivered another yorker after that, and all Markande could muster was a single on a leg bye.

MI won by 14 runs and Tendulkar junior got his first IPL wicket when Arjun threw a fuller delivery to Bhuvi, who was unable to centre his shot and played the ball to Rohit at cover.

Arjun, despite a sluggish run-up and an unrefined bowling action, stuck to the fundamentals, bowling the correct distances and preventing the hitters from attacking him.
