In the men’s singles round of the WTT Contender table tennis competition in Zagreb, Croatia, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran of India stunned World No. 6 and the current European champion Jorgic Darko 3-1.
In their round of 32 matchup on Thursday, Sathiyan defeated the second-seeded Slovenian player by scores of 6-11, 12-10, 11-9, and 12-10 by displaying bravery and flawless execution of his ideas.
At WTT Contender Zagreb 2022, Sathiyan wrote, “Went all guns blazing as I secured a MASSIVE WIN tonight taking out the World Rank 6 & current European cup champion Jorgic Darko (SLO) 3-1 in the Men Singles Round of 32.”
This is Sathiyan’s second victory over a top-10 player overall.
Earlier, during the 2019 Asian Championships, Sathiyan defeated former World No. 5 Tomakazu Harimoto of Japan.
Sathiyan will compete for India in table tennis at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, which will begin on July 28.
