Barshim wins his third straight world high jump title (Video)

Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar won his third consecutive high jump title in grand fashion on Monday, easily clearing a world-leading 2.37 meters while all of his competitors struggled to even come close.

Barshim, who notably won a gold medal at the Olympics alongside Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy last year, leapt wonderfully all night to surpass his own season’s best of 2.30.

After clearing 2.35, the championship was all but assured, but he then strolled past 2.37 in what appeared to be slow motion.

He made one effort at a championship record 2.42 after winning the gold medal, but failed.
