On Friday, before submitting his nomination for president, Shashi Tharoor visited Rajghat to pay his respects to Mahatma Gandhi.
Tharoor wrote in a tweet, “Remembering the man who established India’s bridge to the 21st century.”
With reference to Rajiv Gandhi, he said: “India is a very young nation. One of my goals in life is to see India become a prosperous, self-sufficient, and politically neutral nation that proudly serves its fellow human beings.”
At approximately 11:15 a.m., Digvijay Singh will submit his candidacy papers, followed by Tharoor at approximately 12:25 p.m.
In a meeting on Thursday, Singh and Tharoor acknowledged that their competition is “not a rivalry but a friendly struggle.”
