Biden demands gun control legislation & blames the gun lobby

President of the United States Joe Biden urged Americans to stand up to the gun lobby and urged members of Congress to approve quick gun control legislation, citing the need for “reasonable gun regulations” in the aftermath of the Texas school shooting in which 21 people were slain, including 18 children.

“Mass shootings decreased when we passed the Assault Weapons Ban (in 1994), but they tripled when the law expired [in 2004]. The idea that an 18-year-old kid can walk into a gun store and buy assault weapons is just wrong,” the US President said hours after one of the deadliest school shootings in Texas.

“It’s time for those who have struck, delayed, or blocked common-sense gun measures to know that we will not forget,” he added, pointing to members of Congress.

In his remarks to the press, Biden expressed his hope that if elected President, he would not have to go through this again.

Biden spoke from personal experience, having lost his first wife and little daughter in a car accident in 1972 and an adult son to cancer in 2015.

“Losing a child is like losing a piece of your soul,” he explained.

“You feel like you’re being pulled into a hollowness in your chest… you’re never quite the same.”

The president of the United States has requested the nation to pray for them and to “give the parents and siblings strength in the darkness they are experiencing as a nation.”

“Since then, there have been over 900 cases of gun firing reported on school grounds,” President Trump remarked, referring to the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida.

He mentioned the shooting in Buffalo 10 days ago, lamenting the fact that an 18-year-old was able to obtain a pistol and perpetrate such horrible atrocities in both situations.

Biden was briefed about the shooting earlier in the day aboard Air Force One as he returned from a trip to Asia, according to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

He reached out to Texas Governor Greg Abbott to offer any support that could be required.
