As cyclone “Biparjoy” is expected to make landfall along the Saurashtra-Kutch coasts as a very strong cyclonic storm, authorities have banned fishing operations around Gujarat’s south and north shores and have started evacuating residents in seaside areas, officials said on Monday.

In its most recent bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the ‘extremely severe cyclonic storm’ was very likely to move north-northeast and cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjacent Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) by noon on June 15 as a’very severe cyclonic storm’ with a maximum sustained wind speed of 125-mph.

As the storm is expected to bring very strong winds and heavy rain to the area, officials said the state administration has started making preparations to deal with its effects.
