Brij Bhushan: I’ll hang myself

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh

“First they (protesting wrestlers) had some other demand and later they demanded something else,” said former WFI chairman and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh today.

Their needs and language are always evolving. I had threatened to kill myself if even one of the accusations against me were found to be true. I maintain my position.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) severely denounced the weekend treatment of the protesting Indian wrestlers by Delhi Police, calling it “very disturbing” in a statement.

The United World Wrestling (UWW), which criticised the incarceration of the wrestlers during their demonstration at Jantar Mantar and threatened to suspend the national federation if it failed to hold its election within the allotted time, prompted the IOC’s response.

Leading wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sangeeta Phogat have accused Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the departing president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), of sexual exploitation.
