CBI has arrested one of Karti’s closest aides for bribes

D S Bhaskar Raman, a close associate of Congress leader Karti P Chidambaram, has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in an ongoing visa corruption case after being questioned late last night.

The visas of 263 Chinese nationals for a power company after receiving illegal gratification of Rs 50 lakh 11 years ago when his father P Chidambaram was union home minister, the CBI registered a new case against Karti Chidambaram on Tuesday.

After registering the FIR, CBI teams conducted coordinated searches at 10 locations across the country, including the homes of the Chidambarams in Chennai and Delhi.

Congressman P Chidambaram claimed in Hindi and English tweets that the CBI searched his Chennai home and his Delhi official residence. Chidambaram is a senior member of Congress.

It was unclear what “timing” he was referring to, however.
