Ceh defeats Stahl to claim the world discus championship

In the discus final at the World Championships on Tuesday, young gun Kristjan Ceh of Slovenia defeated Daniel Stahl of Sweden, providing the performance of his life to win gold.

Olympic champion Stahl, who won in 2019, briefly held the lead with a first-place finish of 66.59 metres before being overtaken by Mykolas Alekna and Andrius Gudzius of Lithuania.

Stahl improved to 67.10 metres on his fifth attempt but was never able to return to medal contention.

In Eugene, Oregon, the 23-year-old Ceh broke a championship record as he sent a 71.13-meter third attempt across the lawn, sending cheers across Hayward Field.

Alekna and Gudzius crossed the finish line in second and third place, jogging around the track with their country’s flag waved in the background.
