kejriwal mann mamata banerjee meet

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, and Bhagwant Mann, the leader of his party in Punjab, met with Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, on Tuesday in Kolkata as part of a nationwide tour to rally support for their opposition to the Center’s law on control of services in Delhi.

AAP officials Raghav Chadha and Atishi Singh were among them.

As Raghav tweeted,”In Kolkata today, Arvind Kejriwal met with West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, who promised her and her party’s unequivocal support to our fight against the Anti-Delhi ordinance to keep India’s federal spirit and democracy alive. Together we will defeat this ordinance in Rajya Sabha.

The private meeting is anticipated to go on for a while.

The central ordinance creating a National Capital Civil Service Authority, which essentially overturns a Supreme Court order last week giving control of services to the elected government in Delhi with the exception of those related to the police, public order, and land, is expected to be discussed during the leaders’ meeting.

According to sources at the chief minister’s secretariat in Kolkata, the two parties would also likely talk about the potential of forming an opposition coalition as well as the 2024 general elections.

Kejriwal tweeted, “Today, I am starting my journey around the country for the rights of the people of Delhi,” before setting out for Kolkata. The people of Delhi had justice served by a decision made by the Supreme Court. The ordinance was introduced by the Centre, taking their rights away.
