In the wake of his team’s 1-0 loss to Everton on Saturday, Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo offered an apology to a fan who claimed he knocked their phone out of their hands.
After the game at Goodison Park, videos of Ronaldo walking off the field and into the tunnel went viral on social media. According to eyewitnesses, the 37-year-old punched a fan in the face and knocked their phone to the ground.
Ronaldo apologized for the incident on Instagram.
At a time like this, Ronaldo said, “it’s never easy to deal with emotions.” In spite of this, we must always be respectful, patient, and set an example for all the young people who enjoy the beautiful game.”
Please accept my apologies for my outburst; if it is possible, I’d like this supporter to attend a game at Old Trafford as a gesture of good sportsmanship. “
According to Reuters, the club is investigating the incident.
Demise leaves United in seventh place and they could miss out on Champions League qualification as Spurs sit six points ahead of them in fourth place in the table.
