Dating app Tinder to launch new warnings to further sanitize chats

San Francisco, Feb 5 (IANS) Dating app Tinder on Monday announced new warnings to provide additional guidance to users, inform them of inappropriate behavior and provide an immediate opportunity to change their actions in the future.

The new warnings fall into three categories: authenticity, respect and inclusion.

They cover in-app behavior when interacting with other users, such as harassment, and protect them from advertising and impersonation.

The new notices are rolling out now and will be live worldwide in the coming weeks.

Globally, online dating is now the most common way for singles to meet new people, with 53% of under-30s using dating apps.

“These warnings are designed to provide transparency and alert users when they are not behaving in an acceptable and respectful manner,” said Nicole Blumenfeld, Tinder’s vice president of trust and safety operations.

“By providing greater transparency to users about their behavior, we not only allow them to ‘correct’ immediately, but also foster a better experience for the wider Tinder community,” Blumenfeld added.

In-app warnings will be posted to users within “Team Tinder” “messages” with an explanation of what violation has occurred, as well as broader information about the behavior and intended actions.

When users receive a warning, it will remain as a visible message that they cannot remove. Individual profiles are at risk of being removed if users continue to repeat the same violation, the company said.

Tinder has been downloaded over 530 million times and the app is available in 190 countries and over 45 languages.
