Filmmaker Pa Ranjith criticised the abuse of wrestlers who were protesting and claimed that the champions were treated “without dignity and respect.”
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), ought to be immediately ousted, he insisted.
Condemnations of the ‘manhandling’ of peacefully protesting #SakshiMalik and other wrestling Olympians and World Championship during the #WrestlersProtest against sexual harassment by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Chairman of the Wrestling Federation and BJP MP, read his tweet.
“The champions who raised the tricolour of India during the world championship were treated disrespectfully,” the author said.
“It is shameful that the government has not responded to either the protest or the winners’ choice to submerge their medals in river water. I demand that Singh be immediately fired from his position as WFI Chairman and MP and that appropriate legal action be taken against Singh in support of the #WrestlersProtest,” said the film-maker.
Additionally expressing his support for the wrestlers who are protesting is Kamal Haasan.
