Fire erupts in Gujarat Pharma factory but no casualty reported

Officials in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district say a major fire broke out at a drug manufacturing facility on Sunday.

They said there had been no reports of any deaths so far.

In the Kalol industrial area of Gandhinagar, an official from Gandhinagar’s fire department said that a blaze had broken out in the pharmaceutical unit.

Five fire tenders were dispatched immediately after receiving a call about the blaze at around 9 a.m., according to the official.

There were also five other fire tenders dispatched from Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Kalol, and Kadi. As of this writing, the blaze in Gandhinagar is still out of control, says a fire station officer in the city.

In order to bring the fire under control, it was taking a long time, he said, because the factory had several drums of a solvent stored there.

“Primary information indicates that some employees who were inside the factory arrived on time, as per our sources. So far, “no casualties have been reported,” an official said.
