In Gandhinagar on Wednesday, months before the assembly elections, former Gujarat minister Naresh Raval and ex-Rajya Sabha member Raju Parmar joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, nearly two weeks after leaving the Congress.
In the presence of Gujarat BJP President CR Paatil and a sizable contingent of their fans, the two seasoned politicians joined the saffron party. Raval also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
They criticized the leadership of the Congress.
Paatil gave them saffron scarves and hats as a sign of welcome to the party.
Between 1988 and 2006, Parmar represented Gujarat in the Rajya Sabha for three terms as a member of the Congress party.
He is a well-known Dalit leader who has also held office on the National Committee for SC/ST.
In a previous Gujarat Congress administration, Raval, a three-term former MLA from Vijapur in the Mehsana district, held the position of minister of state for home and industry.
He won the 1985, 1990, and 1998 assembly elections.
