After strong efforts from Vijay Shankar and Sai Sudarshan, the Gujarat Titans cross the 200-run mark for the first time in IPL history.
On April 9, 2023, in a match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Gujarat Titans scored the first ever 200+ total in the Indian Premier League.
On Sunday, April 9 against Kolkata Knight Riders, the Gujarat Titans became the first batting team in Indian Premier League history to score 200+ runs. Vijay Shankar and Sai Sudarshan helped propel Gujarat to a total of 204 runs on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium against KKR.
While batting first, GT, led by Rashid Khan on the day, absolutely dominated the KKR bowlers. GT reached the improbable mark with to Shankar’s late blitz of 63 runs off 24 balls, after KKR had done well to pick regular wickets in the second half of the first innings. Sai Sudarshan, the kid who batted before Shankar, scored 53 runs off of 38 balls to set the tone. The day’s most expensive bowlers were Shardul Thakur (1.33) and Varun Chakravarthy (13.50) in terms of runs allowed per over.
Gujarat had previously scored 199 against SunRisers Hyderabad in the 2022 season, a year in which they went on to win the IPL. Gujarat established their bowl-first, run-restriction style in the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League, and they easily shot down opponents with scores of 160-170.
GT has also gotten off to a strong start this year, having won their first two games. Hardik Pandya’s squad started the tournament with a win over MS Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings, and then followed that up with a rout of Delhi Capitals in game two.
GT is currently one of the favoured teams to win the championship this year. They feature power hitters like Hardik Pandya, David Miller, and Rahul Tewatia, as well as explosive batsmen like Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha.
