In its first season at the FIH Pro League in Rotterdam, the Indian women’s hockey team put on a commanding display to defeat the USA 4-0 in the second-leg match and finish a respectable third.

In the opening game of the Tuesday doubleheader, the Indians defeated USA 4-2.

Sonika (54th) and Sangita Kumari (58th) each made one goal for India, while Vandana Katariya (39th, 54th) scored two goals.

Argentina already holds the championship, with the Netherlands coming in second.

The USA had the first opportunity of the game as early as the second minute thanks to Elizabeth Yeager, but India captain and goalie Savita comfortably stopped her high effort.

Soon after, the Indians also had opportunities, but Sharmila Devi missed a wonderful chance to beat the USA goalkeeper from close range.
