Following a thrilling finish to the women’s 71kg weightlifting tournament at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Monday, India’s Harjinder Kaur won the bronze medal.
After much drama, Harjinder was guaranteed a podium spot after Nigeria’s gold medal favorite Joy Eze was eliminated after three failed efforts in the clean and jerk category.
With a total weight of 229 kg, Sarah Davies of England took home the gold medal. Alexis Ashworth of Canada took home the silver with 214 kg.
Harjinder accrued 212 points (93 in snatch and 119 in clean and jerk).
Davies set a new Commonwealth and Commonwealth Games record en route to the gold medal.
