Chennai, Feb 5 (IANS) After a two-week break, Chennaiyin FC are all set to take on Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday and head coach Owen Coyle stated that the The team’s only goal is to qualify for the playoffs.
The Marina Machans earned a comfortable 2-0 win when they faced Bengaluru FC earlier in the league this season and will be looking for another win in the southern derby. They currently occupy ninth position in the points table with a total of 12 points.
“It’s great to come back fresh and ready to start the second half of the season. We’ve got six games at home, four away and a great chance to be in the playoffs. We want to make sure we move into the top six and it’s all in our hands, we will decide our own destiny. So we are excited and looking forward to the next game against Bengaluru FC,” head coach Owen Coyle said before the match.
“We’ll be looking to pick the best team available and go to Bangalore. We’ll be looking to do the double, having already beaten them in Chennai in the league game and pick up valuable three points which would take us into the top six straight away. So whatever happens until and everything after the bangalore game, everything is in our hands. Within the club we always feel that we want to fight for the playoffs and the championships and to do that, you have to get into the top six now. and that’s what we have to do,” he added.
Chennaiyin come into the match after a break and striker Ninthoinganba Meetei stated that the players worked hard to finish the training for the last two weeks.
Ninthoi said: “Actually, the break was very important for us. Two weeks after the Super Cup, we worked hard and the training went well and we went through the process of doing a lot of conditioning and finishing. The team he is focused on the next game against Bengaluru FC. In the games we work hard, but we miss the key chances, so we worked during the break.”
Chennaiyin and Bengaluru have played 14 matches in the ISL so far, with the Marina Machans securing wins in four matches, while Bengaluru FC emerged victorious in seven.
