Kerala soldier’s mortal remains laid to rest with full military honors

Lance Havildar Mohammed Shaijil, who was killed in a road accident in Ladakh, was laid to rest with full military and governmental honors at the Muhiyadeen Juma mosque in Malappuram on Sunday.

Shaijil was one of seven Army soldiers murdered in Ladakh’s Turtuk region on Friday after the vehicle they were riding in slid off the road and into the Shyok river.

Member of Parliament ET Muhammed Basheer, MLA P Abdul Hameed, district collector VR Prem Kumar, and others received the lifeless remains when they arrived at the Karipur International Airport in Kozhikode from New Delhi.

The body was kept for public sight at the Thirurangadi Yatheem Khana and the higher secondary school in Malappuram.

Thousands of people gathered to pay their respects to the fallen soldier.

Minister V Abdurahiman paid his respects to the slain soldier on behalf of the state government.

As part of the military honors, the 122TA Madras Battalion fired a gun salute.

Ministers K Rajan and Ahamed Devarkovil paid a visit to Shaijil’s family on Saturday.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan sent his “heartfelt condolences” to Shaijil’s family.
