The government of Manipur relaxed restrictions on business hours, allowing stores to remain open from 3 to 6 p.m. The stores were open from 5 AM until 8 PM on May 8.
The villagers complained that it was tough to stock up on food and other necessities. On May 3rd, tribal groups and Meiteis clashed in Churachandpur, leading to the imposition of a curfew throughout the state.
After five or six days, the administration finally gave in and eased up. There has been an uptick in the cost of necessities. The situation was particularly fraught in the suburbs.
A witness reported seeing cars being set on fire.
