The Ocean’s Eleven prequel film is currently in production at Warner Bros. Pictures, and Hollywood star Margot Robbie has been cast in the lead role.
Con artists rob hundreds of millions of dollars from a Las Vegas casino in the film, which is described by Variety as a “epic heist comedy.”
The film will be directed by Robbie’s Bombshell director Jay Roach, based on a script written by Carrie Solomon. The plot is expected to take place in Europe in the 1960s.
Robbie and Tom Ackerly, along with Roach and Michelle Graham for Everyman Pictures, will produce for LuckyChap. It will be co-executive produced by Gary Ross, Olivia Milch and LuckyChap’s Josey McNamara along with Village Roadshow.
Warner Bros. plans to begin production sometime in the first half of 2017.
Steven Soderbergh launched the Ocean’s heist franchise in 2001 with Ocean’s Eleven, based on the 1960 Rat Pack film.
It was followed by Ocean’s Twelve (2004), Ocean’s Thirteen (2007), and Ocean’s 8 in 2018, which stars Julia Roberts as a female-centric Ocean’s 8.
