On Sunday, a viral video of a man dressed as a ‘old woman’ smearing cake all over the Mona Lisa painting at Paris’s iconic Louvre museum shocked and horrified the internet.
In the unusual incident, a man dressed as an elderly woman leapt out of a wheelchair and smeared cake all over the famous artwork of the Mona Lisa.
Social media has been filled with videos and photographs of the cake cream-stained painting.
The man tossed cake at the famed artwork before attempting to break through the bulletproof glass meant to safeguard Leonardo da Vinci’s famous picture, much to the surprise of observers at the museum.
Eyewitnesses said the culprit, who was in a wheelchair, abruptly sprang up and proceeded towards the painting.
He flung cake on the picture after failing to destroy the exhibit glass, smearing the cream all over the panel of glass.
Before being knocked down by security, the man also strewn rose petals around the floor. In the popular video, the lawbreaker can be seen ranting in French at museum visitors.
“Some individuals are trying to ruin the earth, think of the earth!” he said, according to the Spanish media.
A wig was also worn by the man dressed as an elderly woman.
He reportedly entered the museum in a wheelchair before committing destruction.
The purpose for the act, as well as how he managed to get a cake into the Louvre museum, are still unknown.
