P Chidambaram, a Congress MP, responds to a question regarding the strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by saying, “In my opinion, if the non-BJP Opposition parties get together, it is possible that we can field one common candidate against the BJP in 450 seats. But that is merely a goal. On June 12, parties will gather in Patna. It is still under construction. Although it will take time, it will happen.”
A meeting of Nitish Kumar’s JD (U), the chief minister of Bihar, has given rise to speculations that the eagerly anticipated gathering of parties opposed to the BJP may take place in Patna on June 12.
WB CM Mamata Banerjee proposed holding a gathering of opposition leaders in Patna after recalling Jayaprakash Narayan during her meeting with Kumar in Kolkata last month.
Banerjee had stated that the TMC would help the grand old party in states where it is strong in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections following the Congress’ resounding victory in the Karnataka elections earlier this month.
