At the Commonwealth Games on Friday, Dipika Pallikal-Karthik and Saurav Ghosal advanced to the mixed doubles squash semifinals.
In the quarterfinals, the Indian team defeated Rachael Grinham-Zac Alexander of Australia 11-9, 11-5.
The men’s doubles team of Velavan Senthil Kumar and Abhay Singh also had a successful day, as they defeated Scotland’s Douglas Kempsell and Alan Clyne 8-11, 11-10, 11-8 in the second round to advance to the quarterfinals.
In the women’s doubles match earlier, Joshana Chinappa and Dipika were defeated by Yiwen Chan and Ainaa Ampandi of Malaysia 2-11, 7-11.
In the bronze medal play-off on Wednesday, Ghosal defeated James Willstrop of England to capture India’s first-ever squash singles CWG medal, winning 11-6, 11-1, and 11-4.
