New Delhi, May 25 (IANS) Former BharatPe Managing Director Ashneer Grover on Saturday cast his vote in the sixth and penultimate phase of the Lok Sabha elections, saying that surprisingly, the wealthy Panchsheel Park locality in the South Delhi constituency was seeing higher voting this time despite the sweltering heat.

In a post on X, Grover claimed it “seems like 70 per cent voting in tony Panchsheel Park at 1 p.m.”

“Uncle behind me – ‘Panchsheel vaalo ko kya ho gaya – pehli baar line dekhi hai voting ke liye’ (What has happened to residents of Panchsheel, seeing queue for voting for the first time),” Grover added.

Panchsheel Park is one of the posh localities in South Delhi.

Polling is underway at all seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital in the sixth phase of the elections.

A total of 1.52 crore voters, including 82 lakh males, 69 lakh females, and 1,228 third-gender voters, are likely to exercise their franchise at 13,000 polling stations spread across 2,627 locations in Delhi.

Pune road rage: Motorist assaults woman with 2 kids on scooter

Pune, July 20 (IANS) In a brutal instance of road rage, a woman riding with two small kids on a scooter was assaulted here on Saturday by a motorist who was attempting to overtake her, the police said.

The incident occurred on the Pashan-Baner Link Road when an elderly motorist was speeding behind her for almost 2 km, desperately trying to overtake.

The woman, narrating the entire incident in a social media video, said that she moved to give him way when he suddenly sped in the front, took a left and blocked her two-wheeler.

He got down in an angry mood, rushed up to her, pulled her hair and hit her on the face, leaving her with a bleeding nose, even as a crowd gathered there.

The woman is identified as Jerlyn D’Silva, a digital content creator, and the man’s identity is not yet known.

When contacted, an official of the Chaturshringi Police Station said that the victim had been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment while the motorist was detained pending the formal complaint formalities.

The incident sparked a furore on social media, coming exactly two months after a 17-year-old minor boy was involved in an alleged drunken hit-and-run accident in his Porsche car which left two persons dead.

Last Tuesday, the city was rocked by another drunken driving incident when a politician’s son, Saurabh Bandu Gaikwad, rammed his SUV into a poultry truck on the Mundhwa-Manjari Road, leaving the driver and his assistant grievously injured.

The son of a former Nationalist Congress Party (SP) municipal corporator, Bandu Gaikwad, Saurabh had fled from the spot in his Tata Harrier SUV, but was later traced and booked by the police.

Thackeray levelled ‘baseless’ allegations against Dharavi project: Shiv Sena

Mumbai, July 20 (IANS) Shiv Sena leader Rahul Shewale on Saturday alleged that his former boss and Shiv Sena UBT Chief Uddhav Thackeray has levelled “baseless” charges regarding the Dharavi redevelopment project to get the donations for the party.

“Why did Uddhav Thackeray suddenly hold a press conference regarding the Dharavi redevelopment project and make baseless allegations? The decision to give a 350 square feet house to the Dharavikars after the redevelopment was taken by taking him into confidence,” he said.

He said that Uddhav Thackeray is also aware of the fact that a house larger than 350 square feet cannot be given in Dharavi considering all aspects of CRZ regulations and air traffic regulations.

“But still the unrealistic issue of 500 square feet house was brought up by the opponents just to create confusion among the people,” said Shewale who lost to the Shiv Sena nominee Anil Desai from the Mumbai South Central constituency in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

He said that the Dharavi redevelopment project, which has been pending for the past several years, has gained momentum during the MahaYuti government (grand alliance) led by Chief Minister Shri Eknathji Shinde.

“Now, only to block the project, unreasonable demands and allegations are being made by the opposition which has no concern for the welfare of the Dharavikars and is creating an atmosphere of confusion only to pursue their political interests,” alleged Shewale.

Shewale said that the Dharavi Redevelopment Project is an ambitious project of the state government and it is its responsibility to complete it.

“The government is working hard. The government will take into account the objections and sentiments of local Mumbaikars regarding the land provided in Vikhroli, Mulund, and Kurla in Mumbai for the Dharavi redevelopment project,” he said.

No Kerala minister bothered to visit K’taka to oversee rescue operations: BJP

Thiruvananthapuram, July 20 (IANS) Kerala BJP on Saturday lashed out at the state ministers, saying that none among them bothered to visit Karnataka where one of the state’s lorry drivers still remains trapped under the landslide.

“All of us heard the noise created by the Kerala cabinet when a state minister was not given permission to travel to Kuwait following a fire incident. It has now been a few days since the landslide occurred in Karnataka and despite the affected area just across the border, not a single minister has bothered to visit the area and supervise the rescue operations,” said state BJP president K. Surendran.

A landslide occurred in Karnataka’s Shirur in which one of the lorry drivers from Kerala, Arjun, still remains stuck after a few days. At least 15 people are feared trapped under the debris.

Arjun’s family members have also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi complaining that there was a delay in launching the rescue operations.
