Parkash Singh Badal, patriarch of the Shiromani Akali Dal and five-time former chief minister of Punjab, died on Tuesday after being admitted to a private hospital in Mohali over a week ago.

He was 95 years old. They brought him to Fortis Hospital Mohali after he complained of breathing problems.

After Mr. Badal’s death, the head of the hospital, Abhijeet Singh, phoned PTI to announce the news.

A detailed medical bulletin on his status was issued by the hospital shortly afterward.

Ex-Chief Minister of Punjab S. Parkash Singh Badal had a severe attack of bronchial asthma on April 16th, 2023, and was sent to Fortis Hospital Mohali. As his breathing difficulties worsened on April 18th, he was moved to the medical ICU.

Medical treatment, including high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) and non-invasive ventilation (NIV), has been administered to him. Prof. (Dr.) Digambar Behera oversaw a multidisciplinary team of specialists in pulmonary medicine, intensive care, and cardiology while he was hospitalised.

Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, S. Parkash Singh Badal passed away. Fortis Hospital Mohali sent a message expressing its “deep condolences” for S Parkash Singh Badal’s death.
In the intensive care unit, physicians were keeping a close eye on Badal. According to hospital staff, his condition deteriorated significantly on Tuesday.

According to a Monday night statement from the private hospital, “Parkash Singh Badal continues to be under close observation in the medical ICU.”

It said that a non-invasive ventilation technique was being used to keep him alive. On Monday, a source stated, “He was having severe breathing difficulty this time, and having advanced age, he could not come out of respiratory issues.”

The former CEO needed hospitalisation in June of last year to manage gastritis and bronchial asthma.
