PM Modi meets with members of the Hakki Pikki tribe

On May 7th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with members of the Hakki Pikki tribe in the city of Shivamogga, Karnataka.

These people had been rescued from the war-torn Sudan as part of Operation Kaveri. During their conversation, he said that this is what makes the United States great.

In addition to the ‘Modi ji ki jai’ chants and carols, people waved flags and cheered as PM Modi left. The government of India has begun ‘Operation Kaveri’ to bring home Indian citizens who have become trapped in Sudan’s civil war.

Since mid-April, when fighting broke out between the Sudanese Army and Paramilitary, the country has been experiencing conditions similar to a civil war on the inside.
