PM Narendra Modi’s mother turns 100 & Modi pens an emotional tribute

As his mother celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi penned a blog post honoring her contributions and the many ways in which her life “molded” his thoughts, personality, and sense of self.

My mother, Smt. Heeraba, is turning 100 today, and I feel incredibly lucky and glad to be able to share this.

This year will mark the 100th anniversary of her birth. Last week would have been my father’s 100th birthday if he had been living. 2022 will be a significant year because it will be both my mother’s and my father’s centennial years.

I am certain that my parents are to blame for everything positive in my life and in my character. I am overcome with nostalgia as I sit here in Delhi right now.

Mother’s childhood was really hard compared to today. Maybe this is what the All-Powerful had planned for her. Mother agrees that this was God’s will in this situation. But the fact that she lost her mother when she was a young child and was never even able to see her face still hurts her.

She continues telling me not to worry about her and to concentrate my attention on the more important tasks.

She always advises me to “never do anything wrong or anything nasty with anyone and keep working for the poor” whenever we chat on the phone.
