P V Sindhu won the gold medal in the women’s singles badminton competition at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Monday, earning praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who referred to her as “champion of champions.”
With a dominant straight-game victory against Michelle Li of Canada in the championship match in Birmingham, Sindhu added a Commonwealth singles gold medal to her impressive collection of medals.
The World No. 7 defeated her opponent, who was rated 13th, 21-15, 21-13.
