On June 4, Pope Francis offered prayers for the 275 or so people who lost their lives in the train accident in India.
In St. Peter’s Square, the Pope recited the angelus prayer for the sad train accident victims. Near the Bahanaga Railway in Balasore, Odisha, three trains crashed, one of which was a cargo train.
On June 3, PM Modi also went to the location and inspected the rescue efforts taking place there. Prior to it, US Vice President Joe Biden also expressed sorrow for the tragic accident in Balasore, Odisha.
President Biden and the First Lady said how “heartbroken” they were to hear about the awful train catastrophe news. After it was discovered that some bodies had been tallied more than once, the death toll, which had been first reported at 288, was reduced on Sunday.
