Pramod Bhagat wins 2 golds at the Bahrain Para Badminton International

The Indian badminton team swept the medals at the Bahrain Para Badminton International in Manama on Saturday, led by Paralympic champion Pramod Bhagat’s two golds.

In the men’s singles final, Bhagat and Manisha Ramdass beat Siripong Teamarrom and Saensupa Nipada of Thailand 21-14 21-11, while he received a walkover from arch-rival Daniel Bethell of England.

One of India’s top Paralympic medalists Manoj Sarkar lost in straight sets to Bhagat, who had just won two bronze medals at Brazil Para Badminton International earlier this month.

Tarun Dhillon also won gold in the men’s singles SL4 final, beating Shin Kyung Hwan of Korea 21-9 21-9. Siripong Teamarrom of Thailand had defeated the Indian 21-14, 15-21 in the semifinals.

Mandeep Kaur (SL3) finished with a silver medal in women’s singles after losing 5-21 17-21 to Halime Yildiz. In the semifinals, she shocked top seed Manasi Joshi, a fellow Indian, 21-18, 21-14.

Additionally, Dhillon and Nitesh Kumar prevailed in the SL3-SH4 semifinals of the men’s doubles event, defeating Korean duo Hwan and Joo Dongjae 21-18 21-18, and will face Thailand’s Mongjon Bunsun and Siripong Teamarrom in the final.

Women’s doubles SL3-SU5 class finalist Ramdass (SU5) and Mandeep Kaur (SL3).

Kaur and Ramdass, the No. 2 seeds, will face Palak Kohli and Parul Parmar, the Paralympic gold medalists from Brazil Para Badminton International, in the final. Halime Yildiz of Turkey defeated Parmar 21-5, 21-18, in the semifinals of the women’s singles SL3 tournamen
