76th Primetime Emmy nominations: 'Shogun' leads the charge followed by 'The Bear'

Los Angeles, July 18 (IANS) The Television Academy has announced nominations for the upcoming 76th edition of the Primetime Emmy Awards.

The list of nominations includes historic choices and several critically acclaimed titles that had been overdue for recognition, reports ‘Variety’.

‘Shogun’ leads the pack with a total of 25 nominations (including limited series). It also scored first-time acting nominations for stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai.

As per ‘Variety’, the television network FX landed 93 nominations altogether — helped also by the record-breaking 23 nominations (the most in Emmy history) for its comedy series ‘The Bear’.

‘The Bear’ was already an Emmy superstar, having landed 10 wins in 2023 — making it the most Emmys won by a series in its first season. This time, ‘The Bear’ stars Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Lionel Boyce and Liza Colon-Zayas all received acting nods.

FX’s surge made it the second-most nominated network this year, behind only Netflix (107). And that put it above HBO and Max (91), which wasn’t one of the top two networks for the first time in multiple decades.

“This one really caught us by surprise and in the best possible way,” said FX chief John Landgraf. “You just feel this overwhelming sense of pride for the artists for the nominees,” he added.

Besides ‘Shogun’ and ‘The Bear’, FX pulled off a comedy series nomination for ‘Reservation Dogs’, something that fans and TV critics had been pushing for years. In its third season, ‘Only Murders in the Building’ finally landed an acting nomination for star Selena Gomez.

The most-nominated limited/anthology series this year was HBO’s ‘True Detective: Night Country’, with 19. NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ was the most-recognised broadcast entry, with 17 nominations.

Other outlets having a landmark year included Apple TV+, which scored 70 nominations — thanks to a surging ‘The Morning Show’ (16 nominations), comedy newcomer ‘Palm Royale’ and the limited entry ‘Lessons in Chemistry’.

The 76th Emmy Awards will air live on September 15. Indian audiences can stream the award ceremony on Lionsgate Play.

Tanvi Shewale 'chill at home in pyjamas, enjoy tea & pakoras' during monsoon

Mumbai, July 17 (IANS) Actress Tanvi Shewale shared that sitting by the window in her pyjamas, and bingeing on pakodas are her favourite things to do during the monsoon season.

Tanvi, who plays the role of Roshni in the show ‘Udne Ki Aasha’, said: “My favourite things about the monsoon season are chilling at home in pyjamas, having tea and pakoras, and enjoying the vibe. I love watching movies with my family while having those pakoras and chai. I don’t like going out in the rain, though.”

She shared: “I don’t like sitting home every day; I love to work. But when I get a day off, it’s very relaxing. I love having a relaxing day when I get a break during the monsoon.”

Getting to work can be tough, she says, commenting: “Oh my God, I remember recently, when it was raining very heavily, I travelled for five hours to get to the set because I come from Navi Mumbai. There was traffic everywhere- -Vashi, Mankhurd, Kurla. It took me five hours.”

“Everyone on set was panicking because I was in every scene that day. It was a very different and memorable experience,” she shared.

However, she is looking forward to the audience loving her on-screen performances during the monsoon.

“Roshni and Tejas haven’t had any romantic scenes yet after marriage, but I hope we get to do some soon. Before the marriage, people loved our scenes and were very hooked, so I think they will like it,” she says.

She added: “If my on-screen character, Roshni, had a monsoon playlist, one of the songs would be ‘Bhage Re Mann’ from ‘Chameli’. I feel that the song resonates with Roshni’s personality. I’ll have to think of another song to add to the playlist.”

The show stars Neha Harsora and Kanwar Dhillon in the lead roles.

The Rahul Tewary & Rolling Tales Production’s ‘Udne Ki Aasha’ airs on Star Plus.

Shambhavi, who plays the role of Preeti in the supernatural thriller ’10:29 Ki Aakhri Dastak’, said: “So, the monsoon season is like one of my favourite seasons of all. I have always enjoyed it, and I remember since school times I used to always wait for the rains to start, firstly because of the holidays we used to get due to heavy rains.”

“I also used to purposely forget the umbrella at home so I could just be drenched and have fun with my friends while coming home. My mom used to be so angry because I would often fall sick after it. So, yeah, I think each and everyone, as kids, has a very special memory of this time of the year,” she shared.
