The Reserve Bank dismissed rumors on Monday, saying there is no plan to replace Mahatma Gandhi’s face on currency notes with that of others.

The Reserve Bank of India said in a statement that there have been claims in certain sections of the media that the Reserve Bank of India is considering replacing Mahatma Gandhi’s face with that of others on existing currency and bank notes.

“It should be underlined that no such proposal has been made by the Reserve Bank,” it said.

According to some sources, the finance ministry and the Reserve Bank of India were considering using the faces of other renowned Indians, such as Rabindranath Tagore and APJ Abdul Kalam, on bank notes of various values.
