Uttar Pradesh authorities have used the harsh National Security Act against former Balrampur MP and Samajwadi Party leader Rizwan Zaheer, who is currently incarcerated in a murder case, according to police.
Under the NSA, action has been taken against ‘mafia’ chief Rizwan Zaheer to ensure public peace and order, according to Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Saxena.
According to him, the order was issued on Saturday night and a copy was delivered to Zaheer in jail.
The NSA permits for indefinite imprisonment without charge for up to a year.
Zaheer has been in prison for the past five months for the murder of Firoz Pappu, the previous chairman of Tulsipur Nagar Panchayat.
