Russian army do not control Bakhmut: Zelenskyy

Volodymyr Zelenskyy talking

Russian forces are not occupying Bakhmut, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who on Sunday threw doubt on Moscow’s assertions that the city in eastern Ukraine has fallen.

At the Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima, Japan, Zelenskyy responded to a reporter’s inquiry on the situation in the city by stating that Bakhmut is not now occupied by the Russian Federation.

Hours after Moscow and the private army Wagner claimed their men had fully gained control of the eastern city, Ukrainian military officials reported their soldiers were still engaged in severe combat with Russian forces in and around Bakhmut.
