Rybakina defeats Halep to advance to meet Jabeur at Wimbledon final

In a decisive performance on Thursday, Elena Rybakina defeated previous champion Simona Halep 6-3, 6-3 to advance to her first Grand Slam championship match.

The Kazakh, who was born in Russia, launched a barrage of attacks against Halep, battering the Romanian opponent with ferocious forehands and rasping serves.

The 2019 winner, Halep, did not help matters by committing a number of double faults, which gave Rybakina opportunities at crucial times.

Although she was the 17th seed, the Kazakhstani player needed little help to go to the Grand Slam final, where she will play third-seeded Ons Jabeur of Tunisia.
