Salman Rushdie, winner of the Booker Prize, has accepted his royal Companion of Honour title, which was given to him by the late Queen Elizabeth II in June of last year, at an investiture ceremony held at Windsor Castle in south-east England.

On Tuesday, days after being hailed at his first in-person public appearance in New York since being stabbed and seriously injured in a knife assault at a literary event there last year, Rushdie received the honour from Anne, the Princess Royal, the sister of King Charles III.

At the 2023 Literary Gala on Thursday at the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan, Rushdie, 75, was presented with the PEN Centenary Courage Award.
