Sania and Bopanna advance to the finals of the Australian Open

In her final Grand Slam tournament, Sania Mirza and compatriot Rohan Bopanna reached the final of the mixed doubles competition at the Australian Open on Wednesday in Melbourne, giving them a shot at winning Sania Mirza’s eighth Grand Slam championship.

In a semi-final match that lasted 1 hour and 52 minutes, the unseeded Indian pair defeated the third-seeded American duo of Desiree Krawczyk and Neal Skupski 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 10-6.

While Bopanna, 42, has only won one mixed doubles title, Sania, 36, has won three women’s doubles and three mixed doubles titles in her career.

Sania has stated that she will retire after the WTA tournament in Dubai next February.
