Sania Mirza of India and Mate Pavic, who are competing in their final Wimbledon match, beat David Vega Hernandez and Natela Dzalamidze in the first round of the mixed doubles on Friday in London.
The Indo-Croatian team won their first-round match 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3).
The women’s doubles competition’s opening round resulted in a loss for Mirza and her Czech partner Lucie Hradecka, who have previously declared their retirement at the conclusion of this season.
In 2015, the 35-year-old Indian and Martina Hingis won their first doubles championship.
Mirza acknowledged that she would miss Wimbledon, but that it was time to move on.
She remarked in the video posted by Wimbledon on Twitter that “there are things in life which take priority over playing tennis matches and I am at that stage now.”
