Sensex drops 110 points after a day of choppy trading

The Sensex dropped 109.94 points on Wednesday as global equities markets were mixed, giving back all of their early gains.

It was 0.20 percent lower, at 54.209 points, for the benchmark 30-share BSE index.

It went from a high of 54,786 to a low of 54,130.89 during the course of the day. The NSE Nifty finished at 16,240.30, down 0.12% or 19 points.

In terms of Sensex companies, the biggest laggards were PowerGrid, Tech Mahindra, the State Bank of India, Bharti Airtel, Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Finserv, Wipro, NTPC, and HCL Technologies.

UltraTech Cement, Hindustan Unilever, Asian Paints, Sun Pharma, ITC, and Axis Bank were among the winners.
