According to official sources, LB Das, the speaker of the Sikkim assembly, resigned on Thursday.
On August 16, Das, the West Pendam MLA, reportedly offered his resignation.
His resignation’s cause was not immediately known, but Prem Singh Tamang’s cabinet is likely to appoint him as a minister, according to sources in his party, the Sikkim Krantakari Morcha.
Das will probably be appointed amid a government reshuffle, they claimed.
According to Raj Bhavan, the voting for the new speaker will take place on August 22.
