Sindhu wins maiden gold medal in badminton at the CWG 22

Michelle Li of Canada was unable to defeat Pusarla V Sindhu in the women’s singles badminton final on Monday in Birmingham, giving Pusarla V Sindhu her first gold medal at a Commonwealth Games.

The former world champion and two-time Olympian triumphed 21-15, 21-13, giving India its 200th medal overall and 19th gold at the Games.

Soon after, Lakshya Sen defeated Malaysia’s Yong NG in the men’s singles final with scores of 19-21, 21-9, and 21-16. This victory gave India its second gold medal of the day in badminton.
