According to a source, playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, better known by his stage as KK, would be laid to rest in Mumbai on Thursday.
KK died on Tuesday night, only hours after performing at an event in Kolkata, at the age of 53.
Later, he was sent to the CMRI hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“The last rituals would be performed in Mumbai tomorrow morning at the Versova cremation cemetery, according to his family,’ the source informed PTI.
According to reports at Mumbai Airport, the singer’s mortal remains are being transported to Mumbai on an Air India flight, which is scheduled to arrive at 8.35 p.m. on Wednesday.
The West Bengal administration had paid last respects to KK earlier in the day with a cannon salute to his mortal remains.
The late singer’s body was kept at Rabindra Sadan for some time, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who oversaw the ceremonies, paid floral tributes to him.
Banerjee was seen comforting KK’s wife and other members of his family who were present at the event.
An official said the singer’s body was carried to Rabindra Sadan after a post-mortem examination earlier in the day at the state-run SSKM Hospital.
According to him, his mortal remains were transported to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport and handed over to his family, who will fly to Mumbai with the body.
